Sir Edmund Percival Hillary
Born in 1919, he became the first person, along with Tenzing Norgay, to climb Mount Everest (29,028 ft.). This feat occurred on May 29, 1953. Edmund Hillary was a New Zealander. He was knighted By Queen Elizabeth 2 for his accomplishments.
